Shopify has given a platform to all small business owners to showcase their products to the world. While most big brands are often accused of causing harm to the environment, many Shopify stores have come to life with the vision of making eco-friendly products that work towards the betterment of the planet.

Meanwhile, many Shopify stores also started businesses with the vision of selling organic products when most brands are using harmful ingredients to give their products longer shelf life and over-the-top results.

A famous Shopify store called Partake Foods started with the vision of making food products that are free of elements that could cause allergies and today it has become one of the biggest organic food brands.

Here are the top 5 eco-friendly or organic Shopify stores in the world:

1. Tentree

Tentree is hands-down one of the most eco-friendly brands on Shopify. It not only uses eco-friendly methods of producing and selling products but it was also started with the intention to give back to the planet what we’ve taken from it.

Tentree plants ten trees for every product bought from them. They don’t measure their success in the amount of money they’ve made but in the trees, they’ve planted. To date, they have planted over 75 million trees and that itself says why this brand makes it to the top of this list.

The brand is famous for using sustainable materials for its products.

A recent tweet from the company read, “Our newest fabric, Kapok, is ultra-soft and ultra-sustainable. Kapok can be picked from trees, like an apple, without causing any damage allowing it to continue to grow, prosper, and benefit the surrounding ecosystems.” Their website talks in detail about the kind of materials that they use and how they’re sustainable in comparison to the products that we use otherwise.

Their website shows their objectives, and their efforts and gives a beautiful account of how they’re working towards saving the planet. A section on fabric reads, “We make clothing that’s as soft on your skin as it is on the planet, by using sustainable, comfortable fabrics and blends like organic cotton, hemp, recycled polyester, and TENCEL™ lyocell.”

2. Partake Foods

The brand started as an attempt by a mother to treat her daughter’s allergies and turned into one of the biggest food brands of this decade. Denise Woodard, the founder of the brand, started with good intentions and carried forward those intentions for the rest of the world.

The objective of the brand was to sell food products that are allergens free and her intentions can’t be doubted because a mother whose child herself dealt with allergy issues would never sell inorganic food to the world.

In a conversation with The Startup Story, when James McKinny asked Denise if the standards of Partake food were the same as the standards for her daughter, she instantly replied, “Yes, definitely. So the standard of acceptance and the standard for what we’ll put in our product, If I don’t feel comfortable giving it to my daughter, I’m not giving it to someone else’s family member.”

3. Allbirds

Allbirds, a Shopify store that claims to sell the most comfortable shoes in the world, not only sells shoes that are soft for you but also ones that are made of sustainable material. Much like Tentree, Allbirds also advertises its sustainable practices on its website to encourage customers to choose sustainable products in place of products that harm the environment.

Allbirds also gives a detailed account of the impact each of its products has on the environment and its website is proof enough that the brand is based on the principle of eco-friendliness.

“We’ve made an equivalent product [to other shoe manufacturers], but in a better way environmentally, that’s our brand, our mission and a non-negotiable for us,’’ said Tim Brown, the founder of Allbirds.

4. United by Blue

Another sustainable apparel brand, United by Blue, focuses on clearing trash from the oceans. Just like Tentree, United by Blue also clears 1 pound of trash from the ocean for every product bought from them. At the very face of their website, you’ll find a quote that reads, “4,343,807 LBS. OF TRASH REMOVED.” While we have spent years using plastic which is enough to kill our entire planet, it is good to know that there are brands like United by Blue that is not only making sustainable clothing but also clearing the trash in oceans, something that the planet truly deserves.

“Brands are slowly making the switch to use sustainable materials in their products but it is tough when the alternatives are more accessible and considerably cheaper,” said Brian Linton while discussing the challenges they face while running the business.

He shared how the real challenge is not cleaning the ocean but getting customers to switch to sustainable clothing and make profits to keep this cleanliness drive running.

5. Meow meow tweet

A range of skincare products, meow meow tweet was started to create organic, vegan and eco-friendly products for skin care. It is known to all that most commercial skincare brands use ingredients that harm animals and users in the long run,  with absolutely no accountability.

Meow meow tweet, on the other hand, offers its customers a long range of both organic and plastic-free products that are soft on the skin and the planet. Moreover, their website is not only user-friendly but also has a unique feature of a dyslexia-friendly mode.

“We’re vegan in our approach to the world. So, like, it’s about harm reduction for us. So, like, we try to see how we can kind of like navigate the world and put things out into the world and the least harmful way and being vegan also means considering harm toward other humans. It’s not just about animals,” says Tara Pelletier, co-founder of the brand.
