Shopify on Tuesday announced its latest offering “Shopify Collabs“, a medium which will directly connect merchants on its platform with content creators. This will not only help creators easily discover brands but will also allow merchants to reach new consumers.

By giving merchants the ability to discover and partner with creators that align with their brand, they can tap into the power of community-driven commerce to reach consumers in new and meaningful ways.

What is Shopify Collabs?

With the help of “Shopify Collabs”, creators can establish partnerships with merchants to build curated shops and share products as per their interests. Facilitating their path to entrepreneurship, Collabs will save creators from the cumbersome process of brand hunting. Hence, they can focus more on making content. As per TechCrunch, Collabs’ pay structure can differ with each merchant and creators will receive their remuneration directly via PayPal.

What’s in store for creators?

Creators can apply for Shopify Collabs account which will enable them to browse for merchants whose products align with the interest of their audience. After finding the best, a list of products will be curated which they can share on social media via Shopify’s link in bio tool, Linkpop. The creator will receive payment when someone purchases a product using the shared link.

New medium for businesses

According to Shopify, its new products will provide independent businesses with a new channel for sales and marketing. Merchants can go for the Collabs offering in order to make their store and products discoverable to the creators, who need to apply to join that merchant’s community. It can even be used to manage the relationship between the two, so that creators get everything they need like discount codes and unique links.

As Collabs is built on Shopify, it means the process is centrally managed. This means that order, customer information and inventory are regularly updated, giving a real-time view of the entire multichannel sales of the merchant.

Community-driven commerce

“Shopify is where the world’s best independent brands go to build their businesses,” said Amir Kabbara, Shopify’s director of Product. “With Shopify Collabs, we’re making it simple for creators to discover and partner with these brands so they can make more money and reach economic independence. In the future, Collabs will be fully integrated with Shopify, giving creators access to more parts of our platform and accelerating their journey as entrepreneurs,” he added.

“For Shopify merchants, Collabs is a new way to find potential customers at a time when it’s never been more difficult or expensive,” Kabbara continued. “By giving merchants the ability to discover and partner with creators that align with their brand, they can tap into the power of community-driven commerce to reach consumers in new and meaningful ways,” he said.

Linkpop’s Assistance

Creators can also make their link in bio shoppable with the help of Linkpop, launched earlier this year. Merchants and creators can add important links on the Linkpop page and launch storefronts to sell directly on the platforms. This will allow consumers to purchase directly without leaving the application. Linkpop also has built-in analytics tools that help merchants understand consumer engagement in a better way. A mobile-friendly option is also available with a starter plan of $5. Content creators can use it to launch a no-code store. They can share links on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, TikTok, Spotify and other platforms.

Shopify Collabs is available to merchants across the United States and Canada starting from Tuesday. Creators in the United States and Canada can also apply for early access on Shopify’s website. The announcement came a few weeks after Shopify declared to lay off 10 percent of its global workforce. The latest offering is seen as the company’s effort to position itself as a go-to platform for the creators.
