Shopify has launched an updated version of its point-of-sale (POS) system. Shopify POS Go is a handheld tool that resembles a smartphone. With the launch, Shopify aims to establish a foothold in the hardware market. POS Go will enable retailers to offer wireless checkout anywhere in the store. It doesn’t need to be connected to a computer or mobile phone.

POS Go will come with a card reader, inventory tracker and a built-in bar code scanner. Merchants will also be able to manage staff and payments irrespective where they are-online or store. Shopify POS Go app can be customised to manage store and provide better services to customers.

What’s In The Box?

POS Go can be labelled as the most important product announcements by Shopify since lay-off in July this year.

The device is ready to be used right out of the box. All you have to do is to turn it on and connect the device to all resources, tools, and support needed for business. Shopify says that it aims to boost the growth of offline retail with POS Go which will ‘deliver world-class IRL shopping experiences’.

“Retail is evolving quickly and merchants need flexible solutions to help them succeed. More than ever, brick-and-mortar retailers need technology that keeps them nimble. With POS Go, we’re empowering our merchants to deliver world-class, differentiated in-store experiences. Offline retail is all the way back, and we’re investing heavily in hardware that’s fit for the fastest-growing, most innovative retailers in the world,” said Arpan Podduturi, VP of Product at Shopify.

POS Go will offer three major advantages to merchants as mentioned below:

1. Checkouts Anywhere In Store

With POS GO, merchants can close sale anywhere they want with the help of built-in barcode. The device will allow retailers to check detailed customer notes, product information, purchase history among others. Merchants can even build carts in store and send them to shoppers via email so that they complete it later.

2. Confidential Payments

Business owners can make use of a built-in fully integrated card reader to accept swipe, tap, swipe and chip cards. Wi-Fi and Shopify Payments and Wi-Fi will help in smooth and secure transaction.

3. Unified View Of Business

Merchants will be able to overview analytics, sales and inventory from every channel on the portable device. If any changes are made in the Shopify admin, changes will reflect across their business.

First Shopify POS Go System

Shopify launched its first POS system in 2013. Though POS Go has been rolled out before the holiday season, the tool was being built for several years, say modernretail.co. Merchants have to pay one-time fee of $399 for POS Go.
