On LinkedIn, Tigas claims to had joined Shopify as Strategic Partnerships Manager in September 2018. “I’m thrilled to announce I am diving back into the world of crypto and joining Ripple as a Developer Advocate. I look forward to helping them build a financially inclusive and sustainable future for everyone, everywhere,” he said on LinkedIn.
Having joined Ripple with the same job profile, Tigas earlier co-founded Cryptonaire Consulting Group Inc. and worked for companies like Manulife, Agent GTA, Rogers Venture Partners and Novator.
Web3 is Hope
With his new company, Tigas has his hopes pinned on Web3, a model based on decentralized finance options and NFTs (non-fungible tokens). Recently, Shopify also invested in the development of Web3 toolkit with a London-based startup Thirdweb. The startup raised a Serie A funding of $24 million after reaching valuation of $160M by Shopify, Coinbase and Haun Ventures.
“Our hypothesis has been that although there are fluctuations people who are building projects in the long term will continue regardless of the crypto or macro outlook,” Thirdweb CEO Steven Bartlett was quoted as saying by TechCrunch.
Ripple in Canada
According to u.today, Ripple started its Canada office in June this year. CEO Brad Garlinghouse called it a “key engineering hub”. Now, Ripple is planning to hire “hundreds” of employees in Canada. It had earlier partnered with several Canada-based universities to research on blockchain technology in the country.
Ripple is facing a legal suit led by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. It has cost the company over $100 million in legal fees. Despite that, the company announced in mid-June that it aims to rope in more employees based out of Canada.
