Shopify has announced that it is redesigning the current Shopify App Store in an email shared with Shopify Partners. Seeking help from app developers, Shopify wrote: “We’re redesigning the Shopify App Store this year, and we need your help bringing it to life.”

The new Shopify App Store aims to make app building and installation easier for its merchant partners. The redesigned Shopify App Store will provide them with exact solutions to grow their business. The new platform will also help app developers get discovered by the right audience.

“We’ve spent the last year researching and experimenting with the best ways to help merchants discover the right, high quality apps for their unique needs, and we’re excited to tell you more about what’s coming,” Shopify added in email.

New Shopify App Store Features Include:

  • Listing: The new app store will improve the app listing pages. For this, the Canadian e-commerce platform will optimise fields to “convert and educate merchants” on each application.
  • Quality: High quality apps will be showcased through latest app features and editorial descriptions.
  • Clearly: Apps will be defined clearly through categories. The new Shopify App Store will also allow developers to control how their app is classified.
  • Search: Searching an app will be much easy and effective in the new Shopify App Store. The change aims to “connect relevant apps to more merchants”.

In the email, Shopify asked app developers to provide some information related to their Shopify apps. The requirements include:

  • Description: Shopify asked developers to share a short description of the app, summarizing its purpose and benefit for Shopify merchants.
  • Features: It asked developers to explain features of the app in simple bullet points.
  • Visual Description: Developers are also requested to share an image or video to show the impact of their Shopify app.

Shopify attached the new app listing form in the email, asking every recipient to fill it by November 1. “You must update your submission form in order to remain eligible for promotion. Check out our new documentation for best practices and an example of what the new listing page will look like,” Shopify added.

Categorisation Complexities

Categorisation of apps in the new Shopify App Store is the most confusing aspect, believes Shopify. To explain the complexities involved, Shopify said: “We updated our app categories and are giving you more control over how you’re classified so you can reach the right audiences. In November, you’ll be able to select up to 2 categories for your app”.

By redesigning its app store, Shopify is planning big for the upcoming Black Friday Cyber Monday (BFCM) shopping season.
