Shopify has upgraded Shopify admin experience. All the admin domains of the e-commerce platform have now been consolidated under a single domain – admin.shopify.com. This new change will boost the speed of the page by reducing the load times. Now users will find admin.shopify.com instead of the earlier URL myshopify.com. This new change will only impact the URL used by the merchant to access their store admin. It won’t affect the URLs in the APIs.

Themes and apps will require update to fit within the new domain. Merchants need to ensure certain things so that the embedded apps work properly on the latest admin domain.

  1. The content security policy should include admin.shopify.com.
  2. The app should be on App Bridge 2.0 or higher. Shopify suggests upgrading to App Bridge 3.0.
  3. The host parameter has been correctly implemented by the app.

To ensure that theme editor works properly within the new admin domain, merchants have to make sure that the themes do not go outside the frame (for example: referencing window.top).

The New Shopify Admin Domain

The official Twitter account of Shopify Developers informed the same via Twitter thread. “Shopify’s admin experience is getting an upgrade! We’ve consolidated Shopify’s admin domains under a single domain http://admin.shopify.com to reduce page load times. Apps and themes will need to be updated to fit within this new admin domain. Here is what you’ll need to do,” it tweeted.

“For embedded apps: The content security policy includes http://admin.shopify.com. The app is on App Bridge 2.0 or higher, although we recommend upgrading to App Bridge 3.0. The app has correctly implemented the host parameter,” it added.

“or Shopify Themes: Ensure your themes don’t reach outside the frame,” wrote Twitter page of Shopify Developers.

Slow Site: Strict No-No

A slow website adversely affects traffic. Besides repelling users, it also hampers credibility and decreases revenue potential. According to browserstack.com, 70 percent of consumers says that their online purchasing decision is affected by the speed of the page.

Interestingly, the conversion rates also dip by an average of 4.42 percent with each extra second of load time. Hence, to provide high-quality experience to users, the page load speed should be high. Your aesthetically pleasing website may feature the most impressive or useful list of products, however, if the speed is slow, consumers won’t stay long scrolling through the products.

Tips To Boost Site Speed

1. Compressed Images

High-resolution images are important to attract customers, but it significantly lowers speed of the page. In this case, merchants can use compressing tools to reduce image sizes without deteriorating its quality. In case of single image, Shopify recommends product image of 2048 X 2048, however, if you are uploading multiple images, 800 X 800 works fine.

2. Optimize Use Of Apps

Third-part apps run scripts on web pages which decreased the page speed of Shopify. Hence, it is important to delete useless apps. However, the app does not disappear simply by uninstallation. When you install an app, it injects its own code into Shopify website so that it can function. Hence, you need to manually remove the app so that it does not slow down the page speed.

3. Implement AMP

Mobile e- commerce constitutes a major part of the online sale today. Besides having a mobile-friendly store, business owners must also use Accelerated Mobile Pages or AMP, which was created by Google to boost speed of mobile web. However, AMP is not implemented natively in Shopify. Users need help of certain apps to ensure fast loading of pages on mobile devices

4. Single Hero Image

Though sliders are attractive and display multiple pictures of products, they tend to decrease website speed. According to browserstack.com, single high-quality hero image will take less time to load and won’t let consumers bounce off the site. Store owner can pair the image with CTA so that consumers get to know what they can expect from the site.
