Shopify President Harley Finkelstein advocates independent selling like no other entrepreneur. Apart from helping the Canadian e-commerce company in its business operations, Finkelstein also has a tea store of his own powered by Shopify. As Mother’s Day approach, he has launched a range of products for gifting purpose.

In most parts of the world, including countries like India, Canada, Australia and the United States, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. So it is falling on May 14 this year.

Finkelstein took to Twitter to share the new product line saying: “Still trying to explain to my mom what Shopify is but anyways here’s a good gift for your mom for Mother’s Day”.

The Shopify President is also offering a coupon code for free shipping to encourage shopping on Mother’s Day. “Also – FirebellyTea has free expedited shipping for orders over $50 today for everyone who has procrastinated [me]. So, order today and make her still believe you’re the best son/daughter/child who thought ahead,” he said in another tweet.

FORMOM is the coupon code offered by Firebelly Tea.

About The Gifting Range

The gifting range of products is titled Tea & Accessory Bundles on Finkelstein’s store. It helps customers save money when they purchase combinations of best-selling products and must-have tea accessories. Add to this, Firebelly Tea is offering a free sample on the purchase of $75 and two free samples on the purchase of $100.

Eight products are featured in the new product line. It begins with “The Must Have,” which includes a tea strainer, a three-tea variety pack and a tea cup with a choice of colours (black and white). The second product is “Down Time,” which comes with a choice of herbal tea, strainer and black resting cup.

The Best Sellers include a variety pack of top 10 teas sold by Firebelly Tea, a strainer and a choice of resting cup.

The other products featured in the new product line include highly caffeinated Wake-up Call, Iced Tea Lover, Indulge Me (With real flavours of chocolate and vanilla), The Start-Up and Movers & Shakers.

While most of the combinations promise 25 to 30 cups of tea, The Best Sellers promises 20-25 cups. The Indulge Me combo offers 50 to 60 cups of tea. The price starts from $39.90 CAD for the Down Time combo and goes up to $74.95 CAD for Iced Tea Lover which comes with a pitcher, infuser and a choice of three-tea variety pack.

Free Giveaways

The Tea & Accessory Bundles page also features a quiz to help customers make the right purchase. Firebelly Tea also offers a giveaway of a $250 Starter Set to a monthly tea game-winner.

Finkelstein started Firebelly Tea as a side hustle in January 2022 along with his full-time job at Shopify. In September, he spoke about his venture on LinkedIn, cherishing the good nine months of his entrepreneurial journey. Elated to become an entrepreneur again, the Shopify President explained in a long post how it all started six years ago and took shape during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Nine months ago, I became an entrepreneur again – and it feels damn good. Why? As the President of Shopify, the best way for me to understand what our merchants are experiencing today as they build their businesses is to be an entrepreneur alongside them,” he wrote.

“For a year, we product tested, designed tea accessories and packaging, built our site and our brand. Finally, in November 2021 we launched Firebelly Tea on Shopify. We are nine months in, and it’s been one hell of a ride so far. But I can tell you one thing – we are just getting started. If you want to see what we’ve built, check out what’s brewing,” Finkelstein concluded his post.

Firebelly Tea claims to sell products made of 100 percent real ingredients with no artificial sweeteners, flavouring agents or sugar. It also promises fast delivery and sustainable packaging as the brand’s resealable pouches are home-compostable. The company claims that pouches degrade in the compost area of the garden within one year.

Finkelstein started his first company while he was a student. Also a lawyer, he co-founded the JD/MBA Student Society and the Canadian MBA Oath. The Shopify President has also been awarded the Canadian Angel Investor of the Year Award and Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 Award.

He was on the Board of the C100 from 2014 to 2017 and then on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) from 2017 to 2020. He frequently applauds entrepreneurs with tweets and LinkedIn posts and helps them promote the best business ideas.

Philadelphia-based RC Williams, who runs the Rejuvia store on Shopify, replied to Finkelstein’s Mother’s Day gift post, saying: “Hey Harley, if you’re in the gift giving mood, the greatest gift you could give my mom is one-page checkout for our Shopify store”.

The Shopify President responded with a gif, hinting at a sooner launch of the one-page checkout feature.

About Rejuvia

Rejuvia is a Shopify store that sells oral sprays to help improve the quality of sleep. “With just 6-8 sprays directly under your tongue, you can be falling asleep faster, sleeping through the night and waking up refreshed. That’s the power of our 12+ all-natural sleep ingredient blend,” the website explains.

These sprays are medically safe to use and formulated using natural and highly effective sleep ingredients in consultation with sleep researchers and doctors. “Since 2017, our all-natural oral sprays have delivered over 1,000,000+ nights of improved sleep quality to thousands of customers. They’re truly a sleep aid like no other,” the brand adds.

How Shopify Helps

Shopify is helping brands like Rejuvia set up online stores and sell across the internet since 2006. Recently, the company sold its logistics business to focus on its “main quest”.

CEO Tobi Lutke said in a blog post that Shopify’s primary quest was to power independent selling, making it easier to sell and purchase using the internet. The company now sees the potential of artificial intelligence in making the copilot for entrepreneurship possible.

“I think that we have built the best commerce platform in the world for that. Technological progress always arcs towards simplicity, and entrepreneurs succeed more when we simplify. But now we are at the dawn of the AI era and the new capabilities that are unlocked by that are unprecedented. Shopify has the privilege of being amongst the companies with the best chances of using AI to help our customers. A copilot for entrepreneurship is now possible. Our main quest demands from us to build the best thing that is now possible, and that has just changed entirely,” Lutke explained.
