Germany-based Caroline Dohrmann, a former content manager for Shopify, was one of the 10 percent workforce laid off by the e-commerce platform. However, the unfortunate event was soon followed by a couple of lucky days for Dohrmann. In a LinkedIn post, she revealed that her inbox was flooded with 25 job offers within two days after her layoff.
I have 25 job offers in my inbox. By next Wednesday, I have a total of 7 interviews. In one week. Unbelievable. The support and engagement I’ve experienced from the people on LinkedIn over the past few days is incredible.

Unbelievable Support
“I hope this doesn’t come across wrong, because I don’t feel the need to brag, but I really feel the need to shout out how rad I think LinkedIn is as a network and community. On Tuesday, I lost my job because I was affected by the 10% #layoffs at #Shopify. On Wednesday, I posted about it and thanked my colleagues for the great time at the company,” Dohrmann said.
“As of yesterday, I have 25 job offers in my inbox. By next Wednesday, I have a total of 7 interviews. In one week. Unbelievable. The support and engagement I’ve experienced from the people on LinkedIn over the past few days is incredible and I haven’t experienced this on any other platform,” she added.
Thanking her LinkedIn connections for support, an “overwhelmed” Dohrmann looked “forward to the interviews and coffee chats”.
“Thanks a million to my network for making sure the right people saw my post and reached out to me with their open content or online marketing offerings. I am overwhelmed and really looking forward to the interviews and coffee chats!”
Layoffs
On July 26, Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke informed his team that the e-commerce giant is laying off 10 percent workforce due to an overestimated “wrong bet”. He explained how Shopify invested huge amount of money after it witnessed a sharp rise in online shopping amid the coronavirus pandemic. However, when the restrictions got lifted worldwide, people preferred to shop physically over online stopping.
“Ultimately, placing this bet was my call to make and I got this wrong. Now, we have to adjust. As a consequence, we have to say goodbye to some of you today and I’m deeply sorry for that,” Lutke stated.
I’ve already been contacted by amazing companies and I’ll be having 10 chats only this week!
Llorente Pérez, Ex-Senior Content Manager, Shopify Spain
Some Good News
Like Dohrmann, there were many employees who found prospective employers soon after the layoffs.
Ana Llorente Pérez, a former Senior Content Manager at Shopify Spain, shared her experience after her sacking in a LinkedIn post saying: “It’s been a week! But not as bad as I thought it’d be. I just want to thank every single one of you, who showed so much support during these past few days. Thank you to recruiters, former colleagues, peers, friends, and anyone in the industry who has giving me a helping hand.”
Talking about her 10 job offers after layoff, Pérez said: “I’ve already been contacted by amazing companies and I’ll be having 10 chats only this week! (Not to brag, but to thank, once again, for all the noise and interest). It’s incredible to realize how valued and loved I truly am.”
Perez’s Profile
According to her LinkedIn profile, Pérez joined Shopify as Content Manager in August 2021 and got promoted as Senior in January 2022. Previously having worked with ISDI, Printful, PROMECAL, Pure Gaming, Fundación Tierra de hombres and Asociacion Cultural Universitaria Palentina (ACUP), Pérez is currently looking for a “long-term position” with interests in public speaking opportunities and video content generation.
“For those who haven’t reached out yet – Please, do! I’m happy to have a chat and consider your project, no matter the size or the industry. You can’t imagine how honored I feel by the fact you would want me in. So for sure I’ll take the time to review each one of the inquiries,” she added in her post.
