Shopify recently launched Commerce Components by Shopify (CCS) to help boost enterprise retail. The Canadian e-commerce giant takes pride in the fact that more than 10 percent of e-commerce businesses in the United States are powered by Shopify. With over two decades of experience in building, optimising and scaling online businesses, Shopify has processed more than half a trillion dollars.

After helping local brands gain identity, retain customer relationships and process data, Shopify is now offering its infrastructure to the world’s biggest retailers with CCS.

Commerce Components by Shopify opens our infrastructure so enterprise retailers don’t have to waste time, engineering power, and money building critical foundations Shopify has already perfected, and instead frees them up to customize, differentiate, and scale.

Harley Finkelstein, President, Shopify

What are Commerce Components?

Commerce Components consist of open-source tools and libraries that help build commerce experiences on the web. These tools are designed to be flexible and modular, allowing developers to build custom e-commerce solutions that meet the specific needs of their businesses.

Commerce Components come with features like support for multiple payment gateways, customizable checkout flows and integration with various shipping and tax calculation services. Commerce Components aims to make the developers’ job easy to build and maintain e-commerce websites and applications. It provides them with a set of well-tested, reusable components that can be easily integrated into any web project.

What is enterprise retail?

Enterprise retail is the practice of selling products to businesses instead of individual consumers. Enterprise retail often involves the sale of specialized products or services that are used in the operation of a business like software, office equipment and industrial machinery.

Enterprise retailers usually focus on a specific industry or market segment and offer custom solutions or services to meet the needs of their business customers. Enterprise retail is different from consumer retail, which involves the sale of goods or products to individuals for personal use. Enterprise retail often requires a different sales and marketing approach, as well as different support and service offerings in comparison to consumer retail.

Why choose Commerce Components by Shopify?

The ever-changing landscape of technology and the growing expectations of customers are the biggest challenges faced by modern-day enterprise retailers. Amid rising competition, it is essential for enterprise retailers to achieve real-time innovation. Shopify helps these businesses prioritize their choices and flexibility to innovate and integrate solutions.

CCS promises to boost the pace of work by offering non-negotiable elements under one suite. Shopify compared its CCS offering with the checkout experience, which claims to convert 72 percent more than a conventional checkout system. Shopify added that the rate is even better on mobile — 91 percent.

CSS also offers flexible Application Programming Interface (API)s to help enterprise retailers build dynamic customer experiences with preferred back-office services.

What is API?

APIs are rules, protocols, and tools that help build software and applications. An API defines the way that different software programs and systems can interact with each other, allowing them to exchange data and functionality.

APIs can be used to allow different software programs to communicate with each other, as well as to access services or data provided by an external system. APIs are typically implemented using a specific programming language, and are made available to developers through documentation or other resources.

Leading innovation

“We’ve always approached innovation at Shopify by anticipating what retailers need, then providing those solutions,” Harley Finkelstein, President of Shopify, said in a press release.

“Commerce Components by Shopify opens our infrastructure so enterprise retailers don’t have to waste time, engineering power, and money building critical foundations Shopify has already perfected, and instead frees them up to customize, differentiate, and scale,” Finkelstein added.

Mattel – The First CCS User

Shopify welcomed the popular American brand Mattel as its first client to use Commerce Components. With CCS, Shopify aims to bring its entire brand portfolio to the e-commerce platform.

“Innovation is at the heart of Mattel. We first worked with Shopify on a project called Mattel Creations, a platform for creators to reimagine the most iconic toys in the world,” Sven Gerjets, CTO of Mattel, said.

“Creations empowered Mattel to move quickly, meet our customers where they are, and most importantly leverage Shopify’s infrastructure to scale globally. It was hugely successful, and we’re excited to transform our brand offerings using Commerce Components,” Gerjets added.

Commerce Components by Shopify boasts of a new back-office management team that works specifically for enterprise retailers.

The flexible APIs offered by CCS work without rate limits and allow enterprise retailers to integrate existing services with modular components. With this, retailers can build stronger customer relations using any device. These modular components can be chosen as per requirements and retailers have the liberty to leave any component that they do not require. With CCS, developers get access to the front-end framework to build new programs freely.

Why choose Shopify?

To gain the trust of the world’s biggest enterprise retailers, Shopify boasts of its best-converting checkout, which comes with 99.99 percent uptime. Shopify claims to process more than 40,000 checkouts on per minute basis for an average store. Apart from this, Shopify claims to serve over 100 million existing Shop Pay customers that prefer Shopify’s one-click checkout.

In August, Shopify partnered with Attentive to integrate the text-to-buy feature with Shop Pay. This enables users to buy products directly from an SMS conversation with a brand. The integration aims to change browsers into buyers with a smooth checkout flow made especially for mobile devices.

With the text-to-buy feature on Shop Pay, one can make a purchase simply in response to a promotional text message. At present, mobile conversation rates are over 60 percent lesser than desktop rates. The frictionless experience for shoppers is based on their browsing and expenditure patterns. Everything happens within a text message.

Shopify claims to have helped online businesses with more than 275 network edge points to set up lightning-fast storefronts. Shopify also offers a dedicated account team, 24/7 support, solutions developers and integrators such as EY, Deloitte and KPMG.

The best-in-class alliance

“We know that retailers have a myriad of opportunities in the digital and data age, whether it’s the shifting digital advertising landscape or showing up for their customers in a differentiated way during a looming recession,” Sam Roddick, Global Deloitte Digital Leader, said.

“In challenging times, we have seen best-in-class alliances between our clients and their platform partners unlock these opportunities. That’s why we’re thrilled to work with Shopify to bring Commerce Components by Shopify to enterprise retailers globally. Shopify is an industry leader in commerce, and we believe Commerce Components will be the advantage in helping propel the world’s largest retailers into the next era of commerce,” Roddick added.

Big enterprise retailers like Glossier, Coty, JB Hi-Fi, Steve Madden, Staples and Spanx are already powered by Shopify. Pricing plans for Commerce Components is specifically designed for enterprise retailers.
